Here’s our deal.

Retail is at a turning point.  The wholesale industry is a trillion-dollar market divided between 1.2MM retailers.  In the past, the market had been dominated by big-box stores, largely selling the same products from the same national brands – but the consumer has changed. 

Today, consumers are purchasing smaller, independent brands that are healthier, more environmentally friendly, more ethical.  Consumers have moved their spending to independent retailers (both online and offline) who they share values with, and who provide the best curated selections of craft brands.

This is where Hubba comes in.  We’re a marketplace that allows independent retailers to purchase products directly from the planet’s hottest craft brands to carry on their store shelves.  We use a combination of machine learning and personal curation to match these retailers with their next best seller.

Here’s what the role’s about.

To get there, we need a product (and a foundational framework, associated set of processes that we use to build it) that will drive success for our users.  The Director, Product is the individual responsible for architecting the product roadmap, feature-set and processes that deliver these results.  This means:

  • Collecting and interpreting qualitative, quantitative data from users, internal employees, and secondary data used to determine the product approaches that will maximize the success of our users.
  • Creating a product strategy, prioritization framework and identifying forward thinking futures that results in a fully-documented product roadmap.
  • Building an optimization stance and framework – using qualitative and quantitative data to identify the opportunities to optimize/enhance existing functionality that will make the most impact.  Architecting and implementing our test-and-iteration model.
  • Working together with Engineering, determining the appropriate mix of new feature work, optimizations, technical debt reduction resulting in a well-documented technical roadmap.
  • Owning the product release process – developing a framework to identify whether the product is ready to ship, leading cross-functional communication to ensure features launch smoothly, effectively, and on time.
  • Leading, developing and growing a team of Product Managers and Designers.

How the reporting structure works.

Reports to the COO; Manager role (2 direct reports)

Here’s what you need to be successful. 

  • You have hands-on practical experience as a Product Manager (with at least 5 years experience).  You’ve seen what excellent looks like in product organizations and frameworks.
  • You understand how to use data (both quantitative and user/employee input) to inform your decision-making and have a track record of using it to build successful user experiences.
  • You make calls that are decisive and non-emotional.  You call losses smartly/quickly and can speak to examples where things didn’t work out and how you addressed.
  • You have a thorough, end-to-end understanding of proper product management, UX/UI processes and best practices.  You have demonstrated, practical experience in bringing processes and definition to teams.

Bonus points for, but not necessary.

  • You have experience with technology products in the retail industry or generally targeted towards SMEs.
  • You have experience working with data warehouses and analytics tools (in particular Redshift, Woopra, Fullstory, Metabase, and Periscope).
  • You are comfortable building advanced SQL queries.
  • You have experience managing mobile products.
